A Creamware Transfer-Decorated 'Courtship and Matrimony' Mug

Early 19th century


Transfer decorated with an ambigram of a man and woman in a reserve and reading 'Courtship and Matrimony' above a poem reading "When two Fond Fools together meet, Each look gives Joy, each Kiss so Sweet; But wed how cold, and cross they be, Turn up side down, and then you'll see"; together with a transfer printed calendar mug for 1826.
